Jay began his pursuit in natural resources management while attending Stephen F. Austin State University in East Texas. While in college, Jay worked as a student assistant taking part in a variety of studies that ranged from fish assemblages in a local watershed to roost ecology of the Rafinesque's big-eared bat and Southeastern myotis. It was during this time that Jay discovered his passion for bat conservation.
As soon as he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Wildlife Management, Jay acquired a role as a seasonal bat biologist in the Appalachia region where he conducted presence/absence surveys and habitat assessments for endangered bat species. The next step in his career led him into the forestry industry, where he served as a consulting forester/wildlife biologist/wetland ecologist for 5 years, gaining a tremendous amount of project experience in a variety of industries.
In 2017, Jay, along with Dylan Brooks, decided to form Biotope Forestry & Environmental, in order to offer both forest management and wildlife conservation services with the unique ability to infuse these two components.
